Website or app: which does your business need?
The Flip Ledger LLC2 min read

Small business owners often ask whether they need a website or an app. The better question is what you want your customers, and your team, to be able to do.
You probably need a website if...
You want customers to find you, see what you offer and contact you. A good website works on every phone, shows your services and photos, and has a contact form that emails you.
You probably need a customer portal if...
Your customers need to log in. Examples are bookings, forms, documents or account pages. A website with a customer portal gives them a private place to do that, so you spend less time on phone calls and paper.
You probably need a custom app if...
Your business runs on a process that off-the-shelf tools do not fit. A custom app is software built around how your business actually works, with user accounts, a database, dashboards and reports, and payments and billing if needed. This is the kind of work behind our own products, such as software for landlords, roofers, landscapers and real estate agents.
A simple way to decide
- Write down the three things you do most often in your business.
- Circle the ones that are repetitive or involve paper, spreadsheets or phone calls.
- If none are circled, a website is likely enough. If customers are involved in the circled ones, think about a portal. If your team is involved, think about an app.
